Our Focus

Articulation – Today’s world requires communication skills. Being smart or talented is not enough. Kids must be able to explain concisely what they want and think OR face getting left behind.
- Article reading and summary: Weekly article reading. Questions are asked: what is the article discussing? What three things do you understand about the topic of the article? What do you think about the topic?
- Speech, letter and article writing: students must research and try to persuade or inform others about hot topics (not political).
- Debate styled lessons: funny and silly topics: umbrellas are a waste of money, prove me wrong. (I hope they believe in choice!)
Reading and thinking Skills
Reading can be fun; some kids need relevant stories and a clear understanding of why a book matters before caring.
- Building a reading habit: Article reading is a quick way to form reading habits, so Moses often sets weekly articles for kids to explore.
- Short Stories: Moses uses fairy tales to encourage students to think deeply about story structure and meaning.
- Theme Discussion: Every student hates Macbeth until they discover the deeper meaning – treachery and betrayal is a juicy topic, afterall.

What if… games
Moses uses ‘what if…’ prompts to encourage his students to write creatively.
- He can highlight and correct grammar issues as stories are written.
- Structure and story elements can be discussed and practiced
- New vocabulary can be practiced – be gone ‘happy’ and welcome ‘joyful’.
Moses writes with his students
Nothing is better than showing theory in practice. He never asks them to do what he can’t.

Based around School exams
- Critical thinking: making informed decisions matters. Every English exam tests YOUR child’s ability to use evidence in their writing. Moses’ classes refine your child’s ability to accomplish this.
