What is ‘Steal a Brainrot’? What is a Brainrot ? Why are my children obsessed with this game?

Roblox has released a variety of hits. You may have seen them online: Brookhaven RP, Blox Fruits, Adopt Me, Tower of Hell. However, in recent times, three games on Roblox have controlled a part of the gaming industry. Grow a Garden, 99 Nights In the Forest and Steal a Brainrot. Even though these games have not got the billions of visits like those above-mentioned, they’re reshaping the gaming world. Even those fancy 3A games that cost billions to make have been outshone by some of the simplest games on Roblox. 

Steal a Brainrot is a simple Tycoon game. You buy brainrots from the conveyer belt and they enter your storage area. They earn an amount of money per second and you collect using the green buttons in front of them. The rarer they are, the more money they make, rarities range from common to SECRET. However, that’s not the only way to acquire rare brainrots, as the name suggests, you can steal brainrots from other players. There is equipment to hit other people, reverse their commands and more. To protect yourself from being robbed, you can lock your base. Although, it must be noted that locking your base is not endless and other people can pay to unlock your base, unlock stronger slaps and money. However, you cannot pay to put a rare brainrot on the conveyor belt, you can only wait and see. The intense atmosphere created by your attachment to your assets is what makes Steal a Brainrot so popular. Though the design may be called ugly, and the rules overly simplistic, the game psychologically plays with you making it so ‘addictive’ in its own way. 

In fact, in four months, from its release date, May 15 2025 to September the 14th 2025, the game climbed to max popularity, it even broke the record for most concurrent players at once, peaking at 25.4 million. With its average of one  million players at once, it’s setting a steady pace towards becoming one of those towering giants in the gaming industry.

Now a big factor in its popularity is also the meme it was built on. Brainrots. Now, many of you will probably be wondering,”What is a brainrot?” So far to you they may seem like money making machines in this random tycoon game that seems, maybe a little bit of fun. Brainrots are AI images that make rounds around the internet. They’re the current meme of 2025. Ever heard of ‘Tung Tung Tung Sahur’ or ‘Tralalereo Tralala’ these two examples are some of the most popular of all the brainrots.

However, there is controversy around the game, for illustration, could the game be teaching young children that it’s okay to steal and if you get caught all that happens is you get hit by a wooden bat. Could this seemingly innocent game be teaching children to embrace the dark side of society, to engage in theft and physical abuse? Then, following this argument, surely this game should be banned for encouraging crime. The community is not only questioning the morals of this game, there are alarming scandals surrounding the producers; Spyder Games. They have been involved in a number of lawsuits and have even removed a character to resolve disputes.

So, is ‘Steal a Brainrot’ a good game? Maybe consider the scandals surrounding it, but, if you enjoy intense atmospheres and tycoon games, maybe you should try playing the game. Just don’t cry if someone steals your best brainrot.
