One day, an innocent game was made; who knew it would be this successful?
Usually, in gaming history, you only see a few million users online. However, there is a Roblox game breaking records at high speeds: Grow a Garden (GAG).
Originally made by the user ‘DevNamedDavid’, GAG has now become the fastest-growing game on the platform. It reached a peak number of 9 million concurrent users, beating the past number of 2.7 million active users of a different game within Roblox.
Grow a Garden was created on 25 March 2025. The aim of the game is to plant seeds and sell the plants to earn the in-game currency: Sheckles. The biggest thing that lures players into the game is that all seeds grow when you’re not playing, meaning you don’t have to wait in the game for the seeds to finish growing. Even though the game was made by DevNamedDavid, a different developer called Jandel has been helping behind the scenes. Jandel has made many popular games, specifically Wacky Wizards which has over 1 billion visits on the same platform. The game is also 25% owned by Do Big Studios, who also own other famous games, although they are a highly disliked studio because they make games ‘pay to win’.
When the game first released, it immediately gained interest from players, gaining over 20 million visits in one hour, making it the fastest to do so.
But, it didn’t stop there.
Grow a Garden then hit the highest visits in a day, hitting over 200 million visits. Then, on 24 May, it hit approximately 9 million concurrent users, beating the whole of Steam and 8x the size of Fortnite. We won’t talk about how this large number of players nearly blew up server rooms from Roblox.
Even though the game is breaking records, there are many people who don’t believe this. Thousands have accused the game of being botted, since fake user issues plague many other games. They also accuse the game of being too simple to be famous. But, according to Game File, a Roblox spokesperson has told them that they don’t suspect the game is botted. They have said that this is massive, shocking, and exciting for the Roblox community. There is also evidence of the game not being botted by users on other websites. A user on X (formerly Twitter) has pointed out that Roblox did a ban wave on all bot accounts and we can see that on some games that their player count dropped significantly, but GAG didn’t, suggesting it isn’t being botted.
Grow a Garden’s success has been crucial to the Roblox as a whole. The game helped the platform achieve the most concurrent users in a day, which is nearing 20 million. This made the game become the most concurrent users EVER in gaming history.
Grow a Garden has managed to destroy many PC games, like PUBG and Counter-Strike 2. It even surpassed city populations, like New York and London.
The future of Grow a Garden seems huge. The game has a planned limited-time event on Saturday and users are estimating the game to reach 10 million active users online. The game also doesn’t seem to stop growing (pun not intended) and will probably go down in history of all gaming.
