Ethan: What if… Someone exploited a glitch (26/09/24)

Jacob Jacobson II was an ordinary man, working an ordinary job, in an ordinary world. Wake up. Go to work. Come home and sleep. His life was an endless loop, no changes, just work. He never got bored working that boring office job, slaving away at the computer, compiling endless amounts of files just to earn a minimum wage.

Until, on a day like any other, he woke up, got dressed and went to work. He walked onto the bus, mindlessly scrolling on his phone, when he saw something: something that could change his whole life.

He tried to hide his excitement as he walked into work, clocking in and sitting down at his desk. Jacob worked like a beast, rampaging through file after file, document after document, until his to-do’s for the day were empty. Unable to control his excitement, he dashed out of the office, sprinting to his nearest bank.

Little did he know, the next 5 minutes could land him a lifetime in jail.

As he approached the bank, he reached into his bag and pulled out his checkbook and pen, he excitedly scribbled down some words: “Jacob Jacobson blah blah blah, amount: $1,000,000

Oblivious to the fact that he was committing major check fraud, he cashed in the check, then immediately withdrew all of it.Jacob took the bus back home, making sure to tip the driver a generous amount before going inside.

Thinking about all of the things he can buy, he strolled into the lobby of his workplace with a whole different attitude and declared: “I QUIT!” before returning home with a spring in his step. Giggling like a child, he lay in his bed a fell asleep.

The next day, Jacob checked his bank account, recalling the haze of yesterday events.

Nothing.

All the money was gone, in fact, he was actually £1 million in debt. What was he going to do with not even a single penny to his name? As if his day couldn’t get any worse, someone knocked on his door. He opened it, expecting some kind of door-to-door salesman, but to his horror, it was the FBI , with a warrant out for his arrest.
